The Value Of A Smile

"Smiling is definitely one of the best beauty remedies. If you have a good sense of humor and a good approach to life, that's beautiful." - Rashida Jones

I learned years ago that one of the most powerful things you can do to influence someone else's attitude is to smile at them. Never underestimate the value of a smile. Of all the things you wear, your smile adds the most value, for it helps you make a good impression, makes you more attractive, and is an inexpensive way to change your looks. That’s why you should not only smile from “ear to ear” but from “year to year.”

Smiling improves mental and physical health. Studies prove smiling releases endorphins, making you feel happier, less stressed, and more relaxed. Smiling and laughing increase oxygen improving your immune system and releases more white blood cells which protect the body against infectious diseases.

Smiling enhances your disposition and encourages trust. People are naturally attracted to those who smile because they appear warm, kind, and more approachable. It is a symbol of friendship and peace. People who smile tend to be more creative and productive. A smile should be standard equipment for all people, both at work and at home.  A smile is a key that fits the lock of everyone's heart.

The best thing is, smiling is contagious and people all over the world smile in the same language. The more you smile the happier you are, and the happier other people around you feel. A smile can light up the day because the world always looks brighter from behind a smile. A smile can open a heart faster than a key that opens a door and is a light in the window of the soul indicating that the heart is home.

Look in a mirror and smile for 20 minutes, it is virtually impossible to be in a bad mood. If you do this every morning you'll start to see a big difference in your days and in your life. It only takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to frown, so you have no excuse. Put on a happy face! The person who smiles the most tends to attract more things to smile about.

Dale Carnegie wrote in his poem called The Value of a Smile:

"It costs nothing but creates much. It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None are so rich they can get along without it, and none so poor but are richer for its benefits. A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business, and is the countersign of friendship and peace. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and nature’s best antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen, for it is something that is no good to anyone 'til it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give."

So remember to share your smile with the world. Give them away freely because it's free therapy. There is usually always a reason to smile, you just have to make an effort to find it. Every day is a new beginning. Take a deep breath, smile, and start again. Use your smile to change the world, don't let the world change your smile!

Make today great!
