Those Ten 2-Letter Words
"Freedom begins the moment you realize someone else has been writing your story and it's time you took the pen from his hand and started writing it yourself." - Bill Moyers
Those ten 2-letter words. So simple, yet so important, and so powerful. "IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME".
I used to use this phrase often when I spoke with teams or individuals at work. But really just realized how much it can be applied to. We all want to improve things in different areas of our lives and it always boils down to the same thing. We create our own destiny and are responsible to make things happen for ourselves. It can be applied to Attitude, Action, Making a Difference, Change, Ownership...the list goes on.
Ask yourself these questions:
- If you're having a bad day, who is in control of changing its course? Who controls our attitude?
- Dealing with Change requires focused thoughts, choices and effort. Who makes the most impact in these areas for you?
- Every journey begins with that single step. Who can we rely on to take that first step for us?
- Even within TEAMS or TEAMWORK, every person has their own individual role. Who is responsible for making sure YOU do your role, to make an impact on the bigger picture?
Your answer should be: YOU do. YOU make an impact on your own life.
Consistent focus and consistent action in any given area, can change it or improve it for anyone and everyone! Most importantly...FOR YOU! You are in control! Don't wait for someone else to do it for you. Others can help, others can influence, but in the long run it is up to ourselves.
Remember, you can FEED A PERSON ONCE, and there is still a good chance someday they will still go hungry...but TEACH THAT PERSON TO FISH, and they can feed themselves forever.
Ultimately, we're the ones responsible for what we choose to do or not to do, in any given situation. If we are lucky, we may have great support from friends and family. But at some point we have to make decisions and take responsibility for them. Right or wrong, it is up to us. It is up to each of us to make the major decisions in our lives.
So remember to keep these ten 2-letter words in your back pocket - to be used at any given moment! Start today, start now.
Make today great!

"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them." - George Bernard Shaw
