Mental Focus

"The strength of your mind determines the quality of your life." - Edmond Mbiaka

Think about it. Athletes who have the strong desire to perform at their peak, to succeed and to win, must continually exercise to stay ready and strong. Yet, regardless of how strong, fast or physically prepared they may be, you always hear about the "mental side" of the game. Top athletes and teams need to also be mentally prepared in order to be focused, confident and ready to compete. You have to practice well in order to perform well. Practice doesn't always make perfect; it makes you better. Perfect Practice makes perfect. It is the mindset of champions.

This mental state can be applied to anything you do in life. Think about where you are at in life as opposed to where you want to be? What things do you want to accomplish? What goals have you set? Whatever you are focusing on improving...whether it be your job, career, family situation, relationships or other aspects of life in general. It must begin internally first, before you can make changes externally. What are your thoughts? What are your beliefs? What do you focus on? What are your desires? Like any other type of strengthening activity you will need to exercise your mental state for it to become a strength of yours. And you must exercise it regularly.

  1. Focus on your attitude: To be mentally strong, you need to start with a positive attitude. A positive attitude helps dealing with obstacles that come your way. A positive attitude, through the law of attraction, will bring on positive results. A positive attitude helps clarify your thought process. A positive attitude helps give you the confidence and strength to get to the next level.
  2. Focus on your thoughts: You've heard the phrase - you are what you think about. Be mindful of your thoughts. Thoughts turn into actions. Actions turn into habits. Habits turn into character. Character helps form who you become.  You become what you think about. Are you focused on what you have or what you do not have? Are you focused on what you want or what you do not want?  Are you focused on where you are or where you are going?
  3. Focus on your dreams: Don't forget it's okay to dream. What do you REALLY want in life? If there were no obstacles, what do you desire? It is important to keep your dreams alive, as this will help direct you and create a "pull power" to keep you going.
  4. Focus on your knowledge: If you want to create positive change in your life in a certain area...study and learn about it. There is no simpler way to put it. Find out more about it. Ask questions. Look to people who have what you want. Look to people who have succeeded at the things you want to improve. Read books, listen to tapes, ask questions.
  5. Focus on your clarity: Be crystal clear about what you want. The first step to getting what you want is to clearly know what you want. Breathe it, feel it internally.
  6. Focus on your beliefs: What do you believe in? Believe in yourself. Believe in your dreams. Believe you can and will achieve them.  Believe you deserve to achieve them.
  7. Focus on your decisions: Very often, success is a result of the decisions you make. Situational outcomes are a result of decisions you make. Things do not happen as a result of intentions...they happen as a result of your decisions.
  8. Focus on your game plan: Create a plan that ties into your dreams. It will be the roadmap to your destination. No matter how big or small the task - write it down. Visualize what you need to accomplish. Break it down and review it often.
  9. Focus on action: Just do it. Take action immediately. Take action daily. Feel good about what you accomplish. Set yourself in motion...and create momentum. Remember, there can be no "re-action" if you lack "action".

When in doubt...start over at #1.

Live with purpose, and on purpose!

Make today great!
