Strength Of Mind
We all reach critical points in our lives where our mental toughness is tested. Whatever the challenge is, you must be strong, look at things differently and act, if you want to maneuver through it successfully. It sounds easy but is isn't. It's hard to be mentally tough, especially when you feel stuck. Mental toughness is a choice and a discipline, not an innate quality bestowed upon the lucky. It can be achieved and enjoyed.
Your mind is a muscle. Just like all your other muscles, you need to work it out for it to stay strong and to grow. Weightlifters know the discipline of continuous untiring effort. They don’t expect to be able to lift as many pounds as someone who has been lifting weights longer. Through continuous work, they become stronger and can lift more and more. The same comes with mental strength. You must work on it with continuous effort. Soon you will be stronger. If in your mind you are already defeated, the results will be the same no matter how often you put up a physical fight.
This is a perfect time and opportunity for you to build something stronger than just muscle. It is resilience. Every day the news gets worse, and you're battling fear, anxiety, sadness, boredom, loneliness. You're going to have to fight to stay positive, to stay optimistic to stay grounded and resilient. You need to protect your emotional and mental state at all costs.
Develop good habits to improve, support and reinforce your mental toughness:
- Believe in yourself and your abilities
- Carry yourself with confidence
- Be willing to learn and improve
- Neutralize toxic people, avoid negative situations and time-sucking distractions
- Be a giver and look for opportunities to add value to others
- Be willing to adapt, embrace change and be flexible
- Think outside the box and be creative
- Feel the fear and take action anyways
- Learn from your mistakes and embrace failure as a part of the process

- Get enough sleep and allow yourself down-time
- Carry an attitude of gratitude in everything you do
- Limit your caffeine and alcohol intake
- Smile and laugh often
- Be self-aware and learn how to assess your own feelings and emotions
- Don't let anyone else limit your joy and don't limit anyone else's
- Say no, when you need to
- Take responsibility for your own thoughts and actions
- Don't wait for an apology to forgive
- Listen to good music
- Always be resilient
- Control what you can control and let go of what you cannot
- Stay positive
All these things can put you in a better state of mind. If you focus on the negative in the news too long, it’s easy to think the world is headed downhill fast. But mentally tough people don’t get caught up in things they can’t control. Instead, they focus their energy on directing the two things that are completely within their power—their attention and their effort. Take what seems like huge barriers, as opportunities and challenges that are meant to be overcome.
