Keeping A Positive Mental Attitude
"Having a positive mental attitude is asking how something can be done, rather than saying it can't be done." - Bo Bennett
A strong positive mental attitude will create more miracles than any wonder drug.
We don't understand entirely why positive thoughts impact our bodies in positive ways. We know that they do. People who are sick improve quicker when they have a positive attitude rather than a negative one.
Think of the power of the placebo effect. We can better face whatever comes our way with a positive attitude. A positive attitude by itself may not cure an illness. Still, it helps us cope better during hard times, which reduces the harmful effects of stress on your body.
Is your glass half-empty or half-full? How you answer this positivity question reflects your outlook on life, your attitude toward yourself and others. Positive thinking doesn't mean ignoring life's less pleasant situations. It just means you approach things more positively and productively.
It's important to catch and identify negative thinking so you can stop it, such as:
Magnifying the negative aspects of a situation and filtering out all the positive ones.
Automatically blaming yourself for everything wrong that happens.
Seeing things only in extremes, either only good or bad, of extreme perfection or extreme failure. These are unhealthy ways to think. You can learn to turn negative thinking into positive. It's simple but will take time to create new habits.
Here are some ways to think and behave more positively:
- Be aware. Identify areas that you tend to think negatively about and commit to start small & find a teeny-tiny way to approach it more positively.
- Take time to stop and evaluate what you are thinking and feeling during the day.
- Smile and laugh a lot.
- Work out & eat healthily.
- Try meditation or yoga to help manage stress.
- Surrounding yourself with positive people can impact any situation for the better.
- Practice positive self-talk. Don't say anything to yourself that you wouldn't say to anyone else.
Your mind can be your enemy or your friend. What we feed into it and what we believe will either build us up or break us down. Developing your mental strength will help carry you through. And your ability to continue moving on and moving forward when you are feeling scared, fearful, or lazy is the sign of true mental strength.
If a negative thought enters your mind, respond with affirmations of what is good about you. You are enough. You are worthy. You are unstoppable. You are confident. You matter. You deserve happiness. And always keep an attitude of gratitude in all you do. Being optimistic will help you handle stress constructively, leading to healthier outcomes.
A healthy lifestyle is more than just eating right and exercising regularly. It includes taking care of both your physical and your mental health. Just imagine—if mental and emotional health were as popular as physical health, there'd be no shortage of positivity and feel-good energy everywhere! Stay positive! One small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day!
Make today great!
