Who Do You Remember?

"People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel." - Maya Angelou

How did you do? Did you remember all, some or none?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They may be considered the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

See how you do on this next one.

Was this easier?

The lesson: The people who make a lasting impression in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They aren't necessarily the most well-known, most popular, or the most famous. They are the ones that care. They are the ones that made a difference in your life. The ones who are there for you in your times of need.

Close relationships, more than personal satisfaction or one's view of the world as a whole, are the most significant factors in happiness. If you feel close to other people, you are four times as likely to feel good about yourself than if you do not feel close to anyone. Making a million friends is not a miracle. The miracle is to make a friend who will stand by you when millions are against you. In life, you will realize there is a role for everyone you meet.

Some will test you, some will use you, some will love you, and some will teach you. But the ones who are truly important are the ones who bring out the best in you. They are rare and exceptional people who remind you why it's worth it.

The past couple of years have been challenging for all of us. Filled with stress, anxiety, and change. We continue to evolve the way we work and live.

Still, people are finding all sorts of ways to connect, celebrate and reflect. Whether it is on a Zoom call or other video chat, or maybe in a small outdoor gathering around a fire pit, or hanging around on a porch with a heat lamp, there are ways to reach out to check on others and make a connection.

We can rise above our circumstances to make a difference in someone's life. Being challenged in life is inevitable, but being defeated is optional. What people see you do may not be remembered; what people hear you say may be forgotten, but how you make them feel in their times of need will be remembered forever.

Who do you remember? More importantly, who remembers you?

Make today great!
