Do What You Love, Love What You Do
"I think people who are creative are the luckiest people on earth. I know that there are no shortcuts, but you must keep faith in something greater than you, and keep doing what you love. Do what you love, and you will find the way to get it out to the world." - Judy Collins
It always feels like there is so much we need to do. We all have work, tasks, and personal projects that need to get done.
Sometimes we feel motivated to get it done, and sometimes we aren't as motivated. But why is that? Do you ever catch yourself doing the same task over and over, but one time you don't mind doing it, and the next time you loathe doing it? We may have entirely different feelings about it, and circumstances often play a role in those feelings. But I also believe it is our perspective and the way we look at it.
How do you look at what you do? No matter if it is a big task or a small one, a hard one or an easy one. Your perspective will affect your production, experience, and outcome. Sometimes challenging tasks seem easy when we are motivated to get them done. The attitude and mindset you have about them and the feeling and emotion you give them make the difference.
Do what you love and love what you do is a commonly heard phrase, and the two parts sound similar in meaning, but each can portray a different perspective on what we do. Similarly, if I asked you, "Have you found your passion? And, "Are you passionate about what you do?" Again, those two questions are similar but differ in meaning. One states feeling motivated to do something versus the other, which brings motivation to what you do.
We need to know what drives and excites us. We need to find our purpose and our passions, and we need to pursue them. But we also need to learn to bring them into what we do.
The first step is to identify: What inspires you? What motivates you? What drives you? What makes you feel the most alive? What are your strengths? Your awareness of these things is vital and can prove to be the difference in your experiences.
It works as a natural mental and physical energizer when you instill our motivating factors and strengths into what we are doing. It can boost the way you interpret doing whatever it is you are doing. Keep them a part of your focus, and learn to build them into your day.
You can apply this to your job as well, regardless of if it is your passion. Tap into your ability, and find ways to reinvent yourself to become vital at whatever you are doing. Learn to bring what motivates you into your job. When you find ways to add value and make a difference daily, it gives your work a whole new meaning. When you align your tasks with your purpose and passion, work seems more fulfilling and significant. And, when you enjoy what you are doing, it doesn't feel like work anymore.
You are at your best when you are doing what you love to do. Your outcomes become more predictable when you create them rather than letting things happen and getting a result. When you can find something that motivates you and inspires you and encompass that into everything you do, you will become great.
It takes work to develop. If you want to master something, it takes time, effort, focus, and a desire to improve. But once you master it becomes your gift and what you created to do.
Do what you love and love what you do! Life is too short not to!
Make today great!
