Serendipity
I love feel good movies. In the 2001 movie Serendipity starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, they play a couple who search for each other years after the night they first met, fell in love, and separated on their own ways, convinced that they were brought together for a reason, and that one day they'd end up together. What a great story, and a great lesson.
The word serendipity means to discover something good by accident. It just happens. It is the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way. It comes from the story about the King of Serendip, who sent his sons on a journey. Since they were obedient and faithful, they discovered beautiful and valuable treasures along the way.
Sometimes we try so hard to find something, when in reality we aren't even sure what it is we are looking for. Other times we find that things seem to appear when we are least expecting it. I believe that everything happens for a reason. I believe that everything serves a purpose in our lives. We are continuously having serendipitous moments with people, places and things in our life at the exact moment they are supposed to happen. These people and things help form who you have become in the process. But it's what you do with those things that will help determine what happens next, and who you will become in the future.
If we are too focused on living in the past, and within our past memories of the way things were, or we are focused too much on what may or may not happen in the future, we might miss them. It's ok to learn from the past. It's ok to plan and hope for the future. But it is most important to live in the moment, to take in all that is happening around us today, and be on the lookout for the messages that could be right in front of you now.
Be thankful for all of the unexpected joy and happiness that is in your life right now. Keep an attitude of gratitude and thankfulness at the forefront of your thoughts, beliefs and actions. The people and things are coming into your life at the exact point and time of need, want or desire. Sometimes this may seem like a coincidence. Sometimes it may feel like fate. Look for it. Anticipate it. For it is the collision and intersection of your collective past, present and future. The magic is happening, you just have to keep your heart, soul and mind open to it.

“It is through serendipitous encounters with objects and strangers that the world speaks to us but we have to be listening. By learning to be alert for clues, one is suddenly caught up in an exciting inner adventure.” - Stephanie Rosenbloom
