Good Food For Thought..."More Dealing with Stress & Anxiety".
Times are tough out there. The economy has added even more difficulty for many people. Loss of jobs and lack of jobs. Tight financial times. A feeling of desperation for some people. With all of this comes added stress and adversity. It is critical for all of us to focus in and work not only on our own mental state, but the state of those around us. Work together to help each other through the tough times!
Here are some ways to deal with adversity and stress.
1. Build your mental toughness - Strenthen your mental state. "Good work habits help develop an internal toughness and a self-confident attitude that will sustain you through every adversity and temporary discouragement." ~ Paul J. Fleyer. Whether this comes in the form of prayer, incantations, thoughts to build your self-esteem or just focusing on your attitude of gratitude. It is extremely important to do daily and often. Be thankful for the things already in your life. Prayer will give you comfort and strength to get through it. Starting your day off with this will start your day on the right track.
2. Build your sense of responsibility - “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.” ~ Jim Rohn. There's a line from the song "Hold On by Wilson Phillips" that states "You can sustain, or are you comfortable with the pain? You've got no one to blame for your unhappiness...you got yourself in your own mess." Rather than blaming anything or anyone, remember to take a hard look in the mirror, first, and see how I might have attracted it to me. (Also see my previously posted note on Ten Two Letter Words)
3. Build your positive network of friends - this is the power of association. Surround Myself with Supportive Family and Friends - We cannot endure adversity on our own - I seek out the love and support of those who I know care about me. Do not be afraid to reach out. Do not be afraid to be a friend. (Also see my previous posted note on True Friends)
4. Build your dream - Visualize it, Believe it - close my eyes and visualize (in vivid color) the dreams I hold dear to my heart so I can be reminded why I am on the path I chose for myself. Believe in yourself, believe in your dreams, believe you can and will achieve them!
5. Build your desire to make a difference. Be the best you can be...not only for YOU, but also for THOSE AROUND YOU. (Also see my previously posted note on Dare To Make A Difference) This may involve taking the focus off of yourself and onto others. Practice the power of giving. Give to others in need. Give of your time. (Also see my previously posted note on Great Gifts That Don't Cost a Cent)
6. Build up your commitment to focus on the things that are most important to you. If you focus on the important things in your life...the rest of the things become "small stuff". Is the thing that is troubling you really going to make a difference in a week? In a day? In an hour? (Also see my previously posted note on The Mayonnaise Jar, Rocks and Pitcher of Beer)
7. Build your positive attitude! Attitude make all the difference! Nobody said it better than Charles Swindoll in his quote: “The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.” Use the POWER OF YOUR ATTITUDE to make a difference in how you respond to events in your life. It can and will make a difference.
