Keep a positive mental attitude

A strong positive mental attitude will create more miracles than any wonder drug.

We don't understand entirely why positive thoughts impact our bodies in positive ways, we just know that they do. People who are sick improve quicker when they have a positive attitude rather than a negative. Think of the power of the placebo effect. A positive attitude by itself may not cure an illness, but it helps us cope better during hard times, which reduces the harmful effects of stress on your body. We can better face whatever comes our way with a positive attitude.

Is your glass half-empty or half-full? How you answer this positivity question reflects your outlook on life, your attitude toward yourself and others. Positive thinking doesn't mean ignoring life's less pleasant situations. It just means you approach things in a more positive and productive way.

It's important to catch and identify negative thinking so you can stop it. Magnifying the negative aspects of a situation and filtering out all the positive ones. Automatically blaming yourself for everything bad that happens. Seeing things only in extremes, either only totally good or totally bad, of extreme perfection or extreme failure. These are unhealthy ways to think. You can learn to turn negative thinking into positive. It's simple but will take time to create new habits.

Here's some ways to think and behave in positive and optimistic ways.
  • Be aware. Identify areas that you tend to think negatively about and commit to start small & find a teeny-tiny way you could approach it in a more positive way.
  • Take time to stop and evaluate what you are thinking and feeling during the day.
  • Smile and laugh a lot.
  • Work out & eat healthy.
  • Try meditation or yoga to help manage stress.
  • Surround yourself with positive people. This can turn any situation for the better.
  • Practice positive self-talk. Don't say anything to yourself that you wouldn't say to anyone else.
If a negative thought enters your mind, respond with affirmations of what is good about you. You are enough. You are worthy. You are unstoppable. You are confident. You matter. You deserve happiness. And always keep an attitude of gratitude in all you do. Being optimistic will help you handle stress constructively leading to healthier outcomes.
