Good Food For Thought...Develop your True Leaders

“2009 was a tough year for many companies. Through it all, the companies who decided to "get into the game" have all focused on improving their companies overall customer service. But then again, everyone who expects to survive the current state of the economy is focused on this. The competition IS getting tougher. EVERYONE is making changes. Some more drastic than others.

In order for companies to get stronger and continue to improve in 2010, the focus needs to shift on improving the leadership within the company. It has to start at the top and be filtered down to every level of the company. Although at first thought, most people think that “Leadership” refers only to “Company Management”, but in reality leadership can be evident with ANY position within their company.

But where do we start? The key is to indentify, start with and develop your True Leaders. True Leaders lead by example. True Leaders SET the standard. True Leaders seek to improve themselves in order to lead others, and in turn…create MORE leaders. True Leaders lead and manage in "all directions", meaning they lead the people that report to them, the lead their equals around them, and often even lead upward the people they work for. It is important for the True Leaders to not only know "the What (base knowledge)" about their business and their company, it is equally important for them to know "the How (process and procedures) and the Why (cause and effect)" about their business and their company.

Remember the 4 I’s of true leadership…True Leaders INSPIRE, INVOLVE, are INFECTIOUS and INFUSE positive attitude and direction to everyone. Remember, the true mark of a good leader is not how many followers they have, but how many OTHER leaders they develop. Leadership can filter down within a company to EVERY position. Leadership is about truly understanding the direction of the company and carrying out that direction as a team. Everyone needs to know what the team is trying to accomplish...and then take action everyday to make it happen. Everyone embodies the same sense of ownership and responsibility to contribute to the team’s success. One goal, one team, one direction. Successful True Leaders will be able to accomplish this and carry it out with their teams and encourage their teams to carry it out on their own.”
